In this Sacred Dressmaking Gathering, we’ll each connect with our own unique essence/being to create an original, unique dress, drawing upon ancient principles of sewing a garment the traditional Russian/Vedic way.
Between now and our gathering, please tune into the type of fabric you’d like to create your dress with. We are at the turning of the seasons now, so you may want to create your dress out of wool or heavier weight linen or cotton if you plan to wear it in the autumn and winter. If you plan to create your dress out of wool, you may want to order additional lightweight cotton or linen as a lining so your dress is softer against your skin. Heavier weight linen can also be a little rough, so you may want a lightweight cotton lining for heavier weight linen. 3-4 yards should be the perfect amount of fabric for each layer of your dress; main fabric and lining. Ultimately, your dress will speak to you the type of fabric it wants to be, even if it doesn’t make “practical” sense.
You’ll also want to purchase thread that is either a version of the color red or thread that matches your fabric. If you purchase from a fabric store, they will know the appropriate thread weight that will work best for your fabric.
You’ll also want to bring a sewing scissors, sewing pins, potentially a thin piece of chalk and a sewing needle.
